System Administration Group

From Hack Manhattan Wiki

Hello!

The intention of the open source system administration group is to learn about system administration topics with hands-on collaborative learning and exploration on a homelab setup of our Dell PowerEdge R430 servers and an Extreme Summit X450e-48p managed switch along with hardware documented in our rack diagram!

We’ll deploy infrastructure components like

LDAP(authentication)

Ansible (Infrastructure as Code)

NextCloud (file storage)

OpenStack (Cloud computing)

OpenTofu (Infrastructure as Code Terraform fork)

containerization and other open source software

We also intend to explore clustering, high-availability and compute clustering.

Completed setups

+1+ We've mounted the 4 switches on the rack in the server room

+2+ installed the OS

+3+ established procedures and documentation standards available System Administration Group - Documentation

We're working in small groups or individually on Project Ideas.A dynamic list of project ideas is available at https://wiki.hackmanhattan.com/Project_Ideas.

We have room for a few new people! Sign up to this event through the meetup.com page, complete the on-boarding exercise, and you're ready to start working on a project.

Please bring a laptop or a device to open a secure session into the systems you'll be working with. We'll have a couple(~2) machines available for use.
