Coney Island Maker Faire 2023

From Hack Manhattan Wiki

Return of the Maker Faire!

This page is mainly a copy of templates in Makerfaire 2013 & 2014 created for continuity. Ideally, we would have organized this before but we figured it out through Discord and member meetings too & ad-hoc Google Sheets.

The Maker Faire has returned, no longer called World Maker Faire but now at the Coney Island venue in Brooklyn and thus named Coney Island Maker Faire. The dates were October 6-8th. This marks the return of Maker Faires officially with the Coney Island Maker Faire being held first and the Bay Area Maker Faire occurring the weekends afterward. The last NYC-wide Maker Faire was in 2018. As most of the members have not attended Maker Faire before this was pretty exciting.

Printed matter & Table Things

  • Printed matter—designed & printed 500 brochures with member approval for print fees (thanks Luna)
  • business cards
    • "table cards" printed & laminated (thanks citybadger) for info on Soldering 101 classes, Holey Day, & Fixer's Collective
  • the banner
  • carts to transport things

T-shirts

Bring them. Maybe a prize for those who win high scores or something was suggested.

Details from Acceptance Letter

The Call for Makers form [[1]] was submitted.

"As you may already know, Maker Faire has been gone from the NYC area since 2018, and we are very proud to finally be bringing it back.

We are excited to inform you that your proposal for Maker Faire Coney Island 2023, Hack Manhattan [40], has been accepted. Congratulations, we are delighted to have you participate in Maker Faire Coney Island.

And even more exciting, this time it's coming to Brooklyn, in America's Playground - Coney Island - birthplace of the rollercoaster and the hot dog, and a vibrant and amazing place to throw a Maker Faire. We have several amazing venues including the Coney Island Amphitheater, the New York Aquarium, and on Sunday, our robotics and drone competitions will be held in the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team - Maimonides Park!

As a Maker, you will be provided with an 8'x3' table and two chairs. If you need additional accommodations, please reach out to let us know. We have the information you provided in your Maker form and we may have some follow-up questions for you in the coming days.

Those of you who have chosen to sell and vend at your tables will receive a billing email separately.

We want to make sure that we help prepare you in advance for a great experience. Please find key information below.

If you are interested in potentially giving a talk or teaching a workshop during the Faire, please let us know - we are always looking for more activities.

1. Save the dates October 6-8 for Maker Faire! Plan on setting up 9-10am on October 6.

2. Begin to prepare your exhibit. Please think about ways to design your space to be educational, interactive, and fun. If you have any questions about your exhibit or changes to it, please email operations@makerfaireconeyisland.com.

3. Keep an eye out for upcoming Maker Newsletters. In the coming weeks, we will email Maker Newsletters with important information to guide you along. We will also send a confirmation letter with further information and a rulebook.

4. Spread the news that you’ve been accepted! We've created a Maker Faire  Coney Island logo that you can use on your website and email signatures to let people know about your appearance. We appreciate any efforts on your part to promote Maker Faire to friends, family, and coworkers.

Do you tweet? Consider tweeting this: “I’ve been accepted to exhibit at Maker Faire Coney Island (@MakerFaireConey) from October 6-8 : https://www.coneyislandmakerfaire.com. Come see me there!”

If you have friends who should be exhibiting cool projects, tell them they can still apply.

Keep up with all the news on Maker Faire by following us on Instagram and Twitter.

Our goal is to make Maker Faire a truly unique, educational, and extraordinary experience for everyone. Please know that we appreciate your participation as it helps us achieve this goal.

We will be in touch with more information – thank you very much!"
