Storage Scheme
The Dell servers have four hard drive bays with two hard drives installed. The goal is to have all application data saved on the second hard drive, while the OS occupies the first drive. (The OS drive is sometimes /dev/sda and sometimes /dev/sdb. That is irrelevant.) In case of server failure, OS reinstall, server repurposing, etc., this will allow us to relocate the data from one server to another just by pulling the hard drive and pushing it into another server. (And reinstalling apps and config files on the new server).
2026-09-25 I formatted the second hard drives, created a LVM volume groups and volumes encompassing each entire drive, and formatted it with btrfs. I added an entry to /etc/fstab to mount those drive to /srv.
Each drive was given diiferent volume name:
| Name | server |
|---|---|
| DATA1 | donatello |
| DATA2 | leonardo |
| DATA3 | michelangelo |
| DATA4 | raphael |
