These precedents are not binding and members cannot rely on them solely to support an application, but they will be given some weight.

Membership

Leaving and rejoining

Members who have terminated their HM membership voluntarily and in good standing may rejoin without a new decision by the members. Leaving with the intent of rejoining is acceptable, but repeatedly leaving and rejoining over a short period of time is frowned upon and may, at the discretion of the board, require a new decision by the members, as may any application to rejoin.

Starving hacker membership level

The board will not question a member's self-designation as a "starving hacker" in the normal course of business, absent evidence or suspicion to the contrary.
