Former Studio 201
So, we have a physical space! It's located at 137 West 14th between 6th and 7th Avenues.

The main room opens into a corridor about 5' wide and 14' long with an 8' ceiling. At the end is an open doorway that leads to an 8'-4" by 14' space with 12' ceiling. To the left along the entrance corridor is a small closet (3' by 4', 8' ceiling) with some shelves and what appears to be an old work sink that has been removed. One window to the south in the main room with an air conditioner and at least two 120 volt electrical outlets on the east and west walls. A mini-fridge is also present under the only horizontal surface in the room that fills the south wall. The ceiling is black with two pieces of track lighting, the walls are Landlord White.
Down the hall is a small bathroom with toilet and sink and there is word of a small storage area under the stairs that once housed an eleven year old boy before he discovered he had to go to a special school in England.
Now, what do we do with it? The question everyone needs to be asking themselves is: If I had a hackerspace/makerspace, what would I want in it?
We had a great discussion this evening (20 September) about what the ten or so of us were looking for in a space, most of it involved large or dangerous tools that significant others would like out of the apartment. But that's just ten of us, I'm sure you have certain goals that you're looking for this space to fulfill as well, so let's hear what you have to say!
I'll be creating a Sketchup model of the space that we can use to more full develop the design but for the meantime we should start two wishlists:
1 - What the space should be capable of (developing film, space for three people to work, hosting knitting circles, hosting web broadcasts for classes),
2 - What equipment should be in it (more chairs, an electronics bench, sewing machine).
Again, be thinking of what you want in this space. We have been given a rare opportunity to make a space what we want it to be instead of being told what it is, let's take advantage of it.
Note on Trash Collection:
Trash in tied-off black plastic bags can be left on the kerb outside for pickup on Monday and Thursday nights. If you are in the space on those nights, please try to take out some trash when you leave. Additionally, Cardboard bundled flat and tied together may be left on the kerb for pickup on Thursday nights.
